Best Free Book About God "More than One Way?" Synopsis (Ch8)

Are There Many Pathways to Heaven?

Jesus issued many warnings against religious deception. This chapter, “More than One Way?” exposes the fallacy of believing that there are many pathways to heaven through many religious and philosophical beliefs. Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Was Jesus being arrogant when He made this audacious statement or was Jesus speaking the truth out of love? Critics of Christianity resent the “narrow-mindedness” of the Christian faith because the true Gospel of Christianity proclaims that no one can enter heaven except through Jesus - who also described Himself as “the door” to heaven (John 10: 1-9). Christians are often reviled for not having an “open mind” when it comes to recognizing other religions as viable alternatives to attaining heaven. It is great to have an open mind when one is searching for truth or answers; however, the purpose of having an open mind should be to close in on the truth once you have discovered it. There are many problems in life that have only one solution; so, why is it narrow-minded to say that Jesus is the one and only answer to entering heaven and obtaining eternal life? A person may be sincerely convinced that 2 + 2 = 5 but they would totally wrong in their belief. Likewise, people may believe that “this” plus “that” equals eternal life but they would also be totally wrong. Faith in Jesus alone equals eternal life! Our own good works can’t even be a factor in the equation (refer to the previous chapter, “Goodness Attains Heaven?” to understand why the best of human merits still fall short of earning entrance into heaven).

The famous French philosopher and scientist, Blaise Pascal, said that there is a God-shaped vacuum inside of every man which only God can fill through His son Jesus Christ (Paraphrase). Most people try to fill this vacuum with anything and everything but Jesus. Why? Some people “love the darkness more than the light” (John 3:19) and because most people have never been exposed to the real Jesus who, came not “into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17) Most people realize that “there is something missing in life,” and they try to fill that God-shaped vacuum with a plethora of religious, philosophical or short-term “pleasures for a season” which will never ultimately satisfy or gain entrance into heaven. The spiritual nature of man longs for answers such as: Why am I here? Is there any real purpose to life? Is there a life after death? Does God exist? Some people enter the world of the occult to tap into a spiritual realm filled with supernatural experiences. Most don’t realize the Biblical admonitions and warnings from God against doing so. (There is definitely spiritual power and spiritual experience in the world of the occult but its power cannot save the soul and will ultimately lead to bondage.) Others turn to drugs, alcohol and sex to numb the painful experiences of life or to silence the echoing questions about God and eternity that lurk within the innermost being. Yes, there is a maze of religious, philosophical and mind-altering avenues that many turn to but they will often lead people away from Jesus and place them on a broad highway that leads to destruction.

The most insidious religious deceptions of all are found in the world of “Christian” cults that appear to be Christian on the surface because they speak of Jesus and intertwine their doctrines with many verses from the Bible. (Satan Himself used Bible verses to tempt Jesus in the wilderness.) However, the Christian cults preach “a different gospel” (Galations 1:7) and they worship “another Jesus” – not the “God Incarnate” Savior who alone could provide the only sufficient sacrifice for sin and have the ability to conquer death itself. (2 Corinthians 11:4) Jesus warned that many false prophets and false teachers would come in “sheep’s clothing” (disguised as Christians) but that inwardly they would be “ravenous wolves.” (To learn more about the destructive beliefs of the Christian cults and ponder more in-depth reasons why Jesus can be the only way to heaven, read the chapter, “More than One Way?” in the “Best Free Book about God.”

Jesus also warned about the existence of “tares” within the “wheat fields” of congregations who corporately do adhere to basic sound doctrines of God and His salvation by grace alone. These “tares” represent the ultimate strategy from Satan to keep people from discovering the real Jesus and real Christianity. Many will condemn the whole of true Christianity because of the unloving hypocrisy that is seen in the lives of many “Christian” hypocrites who attend Churches but who do not have a saving relationship with the Son of God. Guilt by association has always been an effective means to deter people from ever seeking Jesus in places where such imposters dwell. Jesus said that you would know such imposters by their “fruits.”

So is it possible to find a perfect church with perfect people? Absolutely not! Real Christians can, and often do fail. The Apostle John said: If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not within us. But, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. A real Christian, unlike the phony Christian hypocrite, will come to God by faith in His mercy to obtain healing and cleansing after a sinful failure; whereas, the Christian hypocrite does not have any desire to change and could care less about being a reflection of Jesus upon this earth. The desire to be more like Jesus will serve as a corrective compass in life if and when real Christians should become entangled in some type of sinful behavior. And, because of this, a real Christian will, more often than not, be identified by good “fruit” that comes from abiding in the true “vine” – Jesus.

The very real warnings that Jesus issued against religious deception in all of its forms were uttered by Jesus because of His great love that does not want to see anyone perish by missing the one and only pathway that leads to heaven – faith and trust in Jesus alone. For a deeper understanding of  the maze of religious deceptions that exist to keep people from entering heaven through Jesus, refer to chapter eight, “More than One Way?” in “The Best Free Book About God.”
