Israel as a whole rejected their Messiah at His first coming because they were looking for a deliverer who would better fit the role of the Messiah who was also predicted and portrayed by the Hebrew prophets to come as a conquering King. (This rejection by the vast majority of Israel was accurately prophesied in the 53rd chapter of Isaiah in the Bible about 700 years before Jesus came to this earth. However, by the end of the first century, there were still nearly 100,000 Jews in Israel who did believe that Jesus was Messiah.) Most of Israel failed to realize that the ancient prophecies were not about two different Messiahs but rather they were about one Messiah who would fulfill two different roles at different time periods in history. Jesus is “The Lamb of God” but He is also “The Lion of the tribe of Judah.” (The fact that Jesus conquered death and is still alive was discussed in Part 1, Chapter 3 in “The Best Free Book about God.”)

Proverb of the Week
Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs 4:23 NASB)
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come?2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.3 He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.4 Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.6 The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.7 The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.8 The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever. (Psalm 121 NASB)
